Here are the 10 reasons to visit Alula
1. The Heritage
As international travel resumes, AlUla’s natural and man-made works of art – from stunningly preserved tombs to rock formations sculpted from nature – will top the 2021 travel hot lists. Don’t miss the opportunity to see them for yourself before everyone else.
2. Awaken your senses at Hegra after Dark experience
Enjoy the Hegra silence by participating in the Hegra after Dark under cover of darkness.
About 3,000 battery operated candles will be placed by the entrance of one of the Hegra Tombs, where seating areas inspired by the Nabataean civilisation are engulfed in the aroma of incense. This will be coupled with finger food prepared and served by Ferrandi students. The setup includes rugs, floor cushions, low tables.
3. Taking a picture of the sunset at Elephant rock
The Elephant Rock is one of Al Ula’s most popular attractions. This season of Winter at Tantora, the site has transformed into a festive, cultural, and artistic hub where visitors will enjoy a cool experience that includes seeing the picturesque rock, as well as a seating area around the rock, with live entertainment and a variety of restaurants and cafes.
4. Arts and culture in AlUla
Visit Maraya, the Guinness Book of Record’s biggest mirrored building. The mirrored concert venue is covered in 107,639 square feet of mirrors which reflect the desert landscape around it. From pottery to weaving wool into intricate patterns in the dedicated handicraft tent at Hegra, or at the arts hub of Madrasat Aldrirah, watch local artisans practice their craft with some new cultural immersion experiences.
5. Interesting events
Exciting trails have been launched for large Arabian horses crossing the valleys and grasslands, you can also find the Hidden Valley trails, and the more adventurous people can wander through the black stone terrain, go through the sand or hire a desert buggy.
6. Escape the Humidity
AlUla has been a haven for travellers across the peninsula for centuries. The magnificent mountains that form the AlUla valley give way to milder weather, allowing for outdoor dining in the evening and morning or night hikes and trails through stunning sceneries.
7. Summer Meteor Showers
With a 90% chance of clear skies in AlUla as opposed to other major Arabian cities, escape into the wild desert and get lost in AlUla’s expansive open spaces. The ancient landscape is the perfect blank canvas for Mother Nature to paint twinkling stars across clear summer skies.
8. Skip the City Crowds
With packed malls in big cities across the Arabian Peninsula, summer in AlUla allows for a slower pace and more space to yourself. Find quiet contemplation in the AlUla Oasis or capture the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hegra in peace. Instagram vs Reality? Not in AlUla.
9. Disconnect from the Day to Day
Historically a central stop for weary travellers, AlUla has always been a place of respite and relaxation. Disconnect from routine and join us in our serene desert refuge this summer. With special wellness workshops and meditation courses offered at Habitas AlUla, now is the time to focus on you.
10. Immersive Experiences
Take a hike through the Hidden Valley and let the soft glow of the moonlight lead you through amber dunes and across weather-worn sandstone canyons. For the best views of the region, embark on an epic helicopter tour or soar through the skies on an adrenaline-packed zipline experience.
